Virginia Mae Mauro, 83, of East Freedom, passed away Saturday April 20, 2024 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. She was born September 9, 1940 in Altoona daughter of the late Walter and Florene (Conrad) Barr. She married Guy E. Mauro on May 3, 1958 in Altoona.
Surviving is her husband, three sons Guy (Rose), David and Joseph, of East Freedom, a daughter Dawn McDannell (Monty) of Claysburg, 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren five brothers Frank “Snook”, Thomas (Joan), John (Toni), Arnold (Cindy) and Charles “Rick” Barr, and a sister Mary (Alfred) Ingham. She was preceded in death by a son Michael Mauro, a daughter-in-law Melissa Mauro, and a brother Walter Barr.
Virginia was a 1958 graduate of Altoona High School. She was a wife and mother, and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, quilting, crocheting and was a marvelous cook.
Virginia was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Duncansville and was active in church activities. She was a volunteer student aide at St. Patrick’s School and was a Girl Scout Leader.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Tuesday April 23, 2024 at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday April, 24, 2024 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Duncansville, with Father Robert Saly officiating.
